Kim Komisarek

Kim is who your child will see

Kim taught special education for 15 years, kindergarten through 9th grade, and has worked as a dyslexia specialist since 2022. She has two master's degrees.

This screening shows whether your child is at risk for dyslexia. It isn't a diagnosis. Kim will tell you if their reading is worth a closer look.

Does any of this sound like your house?

Pick your child's grade and check off what you've noticed.

Scored below the 25th percentile on STAR, MAP, aimsweb or FastBridge? The score tells you where your child is. It doesn't tell you why.

Reading just isn't clicking yet

Their reading and writing don't match how smart they are

They understand more than they can read

A child who got by in reading starts to slip

They work twice as hard for the same grades

Two or three sound like your child, and school help hasn't changed much? That's who this is for.

What happens in the hour

  1. Pick a time. Kim screens Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You need a laptop or tablet with a camera.

  2. Kim works with your child. One on one on Zoom, kindergarten through 12th grade, with breaks built in for younger children who need them.

  3. Answers before the end of the call. Kim tells you whether your child is at risk for dyslexia and walks you through the results. You keep the official TOD-S score report. Then Arran joins to walk you through next steps.

The report you take home. A real one, with personal details removed.

If you finish the call and still don't know whether a full evaluation makes sense for your child, tell us and we send the $22 back.

What parents have to say

Cass figured we were too good to be true. Here's what she found.

"This was a godsend. Easy, fast, real people who care about you and your child. Very clear data that you receive. My daughter was so glad to have answers and we knew how to proceed."

Rianna B., Google review, 3 months ago

"Dyslexia Evaluations was great choice! ... Their processes were straightforward, thorough, and communicated clearly. ... Arran, Whitney, and Dr. Zepp were very easy to work with and spent time making sure that we didn't feel like we were drowning in information. ... While the process may seem pricey, Dyslexia Evaluations was much more affordable (attainable) than other places and well worth the investment."

"Working with Arran and Dyslexia Evaluations has been nothing but amazing. The staff associated with the process is caring, scheduling was easy, results were quick and the explanations from it all has started us on a path of better support for our daughter."

A note from ArranFounder, Dyslexia Evaluations. Madison, Wisconsin.

Why it's $22

Growing up, I struggled with reading and spelling. I kept losing confidence, and somewhere along the way I decided I just wasn't smart. I didn't find out why until I was 22 and in college.

When I did, everything in my life finally made sense. I stopped blaming myself. That's why I do this work. Children shouldn't have to wait and wonder the way I did.

Waiting is the expensive part. Around third and fourth grade, children stop learning to read and start reading to learn. Science, history, even the word problems in math. A child who is still sounding out every word falls behind in all of it at once, and that's usually when "I'm the dumb one" starts showing up at home.

So we made the first step $22, because that's how old I was when I found out. It's low enough that money isn't the reason you wait, and it still holds a real spot with a real person. If your child needs more than a screening, we'll tell you. If they don't, we'll tell you that too.

Things parents ask me before they book

The school already tests her with aimsweb or STAR. How is this different?

Those tests show how your child reads compared to the class. They aren't built to look for dyslexia. The TOD-S is a published dyslexia screener. It looks at the skills linked to dyslexia and compares your child to others the same age across the country, so you find out whether dyslexia risk is part of the picture.

What if it turns out it isn't dyslexia?

Then you'll know that, and Kim will tell you what she did see. Sometimes a child is just behind and needs more of the right instruction. Sometimes it's language comprehension or attention and not reading at all. Either way you'll know, and you won't pay for a full evaluation your child doesn't need.

It's on Zoom. My child can't sit still that long.

The screening itself is only 20 to 30 minutes, with breaks built in, and it's fine if they need to stand up or move around. With younger children we like a parent nearby to help with the computer. Older children usually do it on their own.

What do I tell my child it is?

Tell them they're going to play some word and brain games on Zoom with a teacher named Kim, so you can figure out how their brain learns best. That's true, and it's what the screening feels like from their side.

My child has ADHD. Does that matter?

It doesn't change anything. The two overlap a lot and one can hide the other, so the screening looks at the reading skills on their own and you can see which one is doing what.

Right now you have a maybe.

If you've had a feeling about this for a while, it's worth an hour to check. An hour on Zoom with Kim, $22, and you'll know if your child is at risk for dyslexia.
