Dyslexia Testing & Evaluation in Madison, WI
Updated August 2026 · Serving Madison, Middleton, Fitchburg, Verona, Monona, Waunakee and all of Dane County
Dyslexia Evaluations LLC provides dyslexia testing for children and teens in Madison, Wisconsin. We start with a free 30 minute screener using the WIAT-4 Dyslexia Index, given live over Zoom by a Wisconsin licensed reading specialist. If a full evaluation is warranted it takes weeks, not months, and includes a parent report plus a separate school report for IEP and 504 meetings. Directed by Dr. Lauren Zepp, Ph.D. in Special Education, UW–Madison.
Madison families have good options for dyslexia support, and most come with a months-long wait. Schools test for special education eligibility, not for dyslexia. We close that gap: find out for free, then get a full evaluation in weeks.
How it works
- Answer 6 questions. A 2 minute questionnaire tells us whether a screener makes sense.
- Free 30 minute Zoom screener. A licensed reading specialist gives the WIAT-4 Dyslexia Index while your child sits at your kitchen table.
- Results the same day, in plain language, with a recommendation on whether to go further. Many families stop here.
- Full evaluation if warranted, then a results meeting and both reports about a week later.

Who does the testing
Every screener and evaluation is given by a Wisconsin licensed reading specialist, not a technician. The team is led by Dr. Lauren Zepp, Ph.D. in Special Education from UW–Madison, with 18+ years assessing children for reading disabilities. Founder Arran Krantz was identified with dyslexia at 22, which is why the first step here is free.
Dyslexia and Madison schools
Wisconsin's 2019 Act 86 required the state to publish a dyslexia guidebook, but it did not require districts to diagnose dyslexia. The Madison Metropolitan School District evaluates for special education eligibility, so a child can be dyslexic and still be told they do not qualify. Federal law requires schools to consider an outside evaluation you provide, and our school report is written for exactly that meeting.
What you walk away with
The screener is always free, and you never pay for testing your child does not need. If a full evaluation is recommended, you get a plain language parent report, a separate school report for IEP and 504 meetings, and a written action plan.
Common questions
Is the screener really free?
Yes. It is completely free with no obligation. About 30 minutes over Zoom, and you get the results on the same call.
How long is the wait?
A screener can usually be booked within days. If a full evaluation is warranted, the written report lands about a week after the final session.
Who can diagnose dyslexia in Wisconsin?
Licensed professionals trained in reading assessment, including school psychologists, clinical psychologists and reading specialists. Our evaluations are directed by a Ph.D. in Special Education and written to be accepted by Wisconsin districts.
My child's school said they do not qualify. Can they still have dyslexia?
Yes. Schools answer an eligibility question, not a dyslexia question. Bright kids often score within range on broad measures while showing a clear dyslexia profile on decoding and fluency.
What ages do you test?
Kindergarten through age 21.
Where are you located?
We are based in Middleton, about 10 minutes from downtown Madison. Everything is done over Zoom, so there is no office visit. Call or text 608-438-3412 or email info@dyslexiaevals.com.
